Dangerous Intersection for Pedestrians and Bicyclists

Editorial
The Granville Press has noticed the intersection of South Main Street and the driveway leading to Ross’ Market has become a significant risk for pedestrians and bicyclists. The driveway is sufficiently wide and the traffic count sufficiently high to make the time-consuming process of crossing the driveway an opportunity to be hit by multiple cars and trucks. This is particularly the case for younger children and others who might need more time to cross.
Village Council would be wise to consider options for making this intersection more pedestrian-friendly. This seems all the more important given the increase in pedestrian and bike traffic that will occur once the bridge over Raccoon Creek is completed.
In addition, both Township Trustees and Village Council should keep in mind risks to pedestrians and bicyclists as they consider zoning for the South Main Street area.

gauntlet
i think a railroad type barrier combined with pop-up tire spikes are in order here. Push the button to cross and large tire shredding spikes flip up as big crossing bars complete with flashing lights and sirens drop to create a safe zone for traversing the gauntlet.
or we could make the sidewalk match the crosswalks up town, that would slow everyone down. not.
perhaps some yellow stripes… nope. granville would never go for that.
crossing guards? we could have them dress up like English Bobbies.
i know, have a granville police officer posted there during the heavy use times to direct traffic and monitor that entire area for newarkians and other riff raff.
plant a row of trees along each side of the sidewalk where it crosses the driveway allowing just enough space that great care would be needed to not scratch our Hummers, this would also give the pedestrians / bikes cover to duck behind.
tear out the sidewalk and force everyone to take the bike path back behind all of the buildings, then install a new sidewalk from the existing bike path, beside the sewer plant and then along the creek. call it a scenic byway rake in some federal money and all is good. maybe we could make the new sidewalk out of old school brick pavers too ;)
the only safe bet is to just drive across the creek on the road and then get out and walk ride on the new bridge. get back in the car and drive back.

I really like this kind of comment. It presents lots of interesting images and is really kind of fun. It is decent creativity. Kudos to ya Fictious! See Ya on the bridge(s.)This adds great color to a site that is blooming heavily all over again! We now have excellent reporting, commentary and….well….this stuff. Especially the Scenic Byway comment. Gahanna has alot of that going on. Havens road, a “Scenic Byway” Mon derriere! Je ne comprends pas!
Very dangerous intersection
Today I saw two kids walking along toward town. They just about got hit by a truck.
Very dangerous intersection.
Something needs to be done.
a small flashing light on
a small flashing light on both sides of the sidewalk would help
along with a brick walk designation
ala the bike path
crossing main street would help
but this problem is huge
im sure there are 1000 to 2000 cars
cross that drive everyday
